A Traditional Autumn Porch at Our Cozy Little Home

There is just something about a traditional fall porch that never goes out of style. Give me a few orange pumpkins, overflowing mums, cornstalks, and a crisp autumn day, and I am one happy homeowner!

This year, we decided to keep things simple and embrace a traditional Autumn look on the porch at Our Cozy Little Home. No complicated color scheme, no overthinking it, just all of the classic fall elements that make this time of year feel so cozy.

And honestly, sometimes simple really is best.

Traditional Orange Pumpkins

Nothing says fall quite like a classic orange pumpkin.

This year, we filled our porch with traditional orange carving pumpkins in different shapes and sizes. I love the way they instantly bring that warm, cheerful autumn color to the front of the house.

There's something nostalgic about seeing a pile of orange pumpkins on a porch. It takes me right back to childhood falls, trips to the pumpkin patch, and picking out the perfect pumpkin to bring home.

Of course, these pumpkins aren't just for carving! I love using them as part of the porch decor throughout the entire season. Once Halloween arrives, we can always carve a few, but until then, they are perfectly happy sitting outside and looking pretty.

Mums for a Pop of Autumn Color

We also added orange mums to the porch.

Mums are one of my favorite fall flowers because they make decorating for autumn so easy. They instantly give the porch that full, abundant look, and their warm orange color works perfectly with the pumpkins.

I love placing mums in simple pots and containers and letting them spill naturally around the pumpkins. It doesn't need to be overly styled. Fall is supposed to feel a little relaxed and collected!

Heirloom Pumpkins in White and Orange

To keep the porch from feeling like one big sea of orange, we mixed in some heirloom pumpkins in white and different shades of orange.

I love the character that heirloom pumpkins bring to a fall display. Their unique shapes, textures, and colors make everything feel a little more collected and natural.

The white pumpkins also add just enough contrast to the traditional orange pumpkins without taking away from the classic autumn look we're going for.

It's a simple combination, but I think the orange and white pumpkins work beautifully together.

Adding Cornstalks

And, of course, no traditional fall porch would be complete without cornstalks!

There's something about adding cornstalks to the front of the house that makes it officially feel like autumn has arrived. They add height and texture to the porch and help frame the rest of the decorations.

I love how natural they look alongside the pumpkins and mums. They have that old-fashioned, country-fall feeling that I always gravitate toward.

Keeping Fall Decorating Simple

One thing I've really come to appreciate about seasonal decorating is that you don't need a million decorations to make your home feel festive.

Sometimes the most beautiful displays are created with just a handful of classic elements.

For our porch this year, it was:

Orange pumpkins + orange mums + heirloom pumpkins + cornstalks = the perfect traditional autumn porch.

There's something so comforting about decorating with the things we've loved for generations. Pumpkins, mums, and cornstalks don't need much explanation. They simply feel like fall.

And that's exactly what I wanted our porch to feel like this year: warm, welcoming, traditional, and cozy.

As the leaves begin to change and the days get a little cooler, I love walking up to our front door and seeing all those familiar signs of autumn waiting for us.

Our porch may be simple this year, but I think that's part of what makes it so special.

Here's to crisp mornings, colorful leaves, pumpkin everything, cozy evenings, and enjoying every bit of this beautiful season.

Welcome to autumn at Our Cozy Little Home!

Love,

Bryan & Jameson

How to Throw a Cozy Halloween Party

Halloween doesn’t have to be all about spooky decorations and scary surprises. At Our Cozy Little Home, we love a Halloween celebration that feels festive, charming, and of course, cozy. With the beautiful Halloween collection from My Mind’s Eye, it’s easy to create a party that feels special without turning your home into a haunted house.

Whether you’re hosting a Halloween dinner, inviting friends over for cocktails and appetizers, or planning a festive gathering for the kids, here are a few of my favorite ways to create a Halloween party everyone will remember.

Start with a Halloween-Inspired Tablescape

One of the easiest ways to make your party feel special is to start with the table. My Mind’s Eye Halloween products make it simple to create a festive tablescape without needing to completely redecorate your dining room.

Begin with a beautiful tablecloth or runner, then layer in coordinating plates, napkins, and paper goods. I love mixing traditional Halloween colors like black and orange with softer neutrals, vintage-inspired patterns, and warm autumn tones.

For the centerpiece, keep things relaxed and natural. A collection of pumpkins, candlesticks, dried branches, or seasonal flowers can create a beautiful focal point without feeling overly themed.

Add the Little Details

The magic of a party is often in the details. From cocktail napkins and cups to plates, napkins, and party decorations, My Mind’s Eye offers so many fun pieces that can instantly make your gathering feel intentional.

Look for opportunities to repeat the same colors and patterns throughout the room. A Halloween napkin at the table, a coordinating banner over the dessert table, and festive plates for appetizers can make everything feel connected.

And don’t be afraid to mix in pieces you already own. Vintage brass candlesticks, wooden bowls, antique trays, and simple white dishes can balance out the more playful Halloween decorations.

Don't Forget the Food

You don't need an elaborate menu to throw a memorable Halloween party. Instead, focus on easy foods that can be prepared ahead of time and enjoyed throughout the evening.

Create a grazing board filled with cheeses, crackers, fruit, nuts, and seasonal treats. Add bowls of popcorn, caramel corn, pretzels, or Halloween candy for guests to snack on.

For dessert, think about keeping it simple and festive. Cookies, cupcakes, brownies, and caramel apples can all be displayed on a beautiful serving tray and surrounded by a few seasonal decorations.

Embrace the Fun

The best Halloween parties aren't necessarily the most elaborate ones. They're the gatherings where everyone feels comfortable, the food is good, the music is playing, and there is plenty of time to laugh and enjoy one another.

That's what I love about using My Mind’s Eye Halloween products. They make it easy to bring personality and playfulness to your celebration while still creating a home that feels warm, welcoming, and very much like you.

So light the candles, put on your favorite Halloween playlist, pour yourself a glass of cider, and invite your favorite people over. After all, the best part of Halloween isn't the decorations, it's making memories together.

The Art of Coming Home: Why Fall Feels Like Comfort

There is something about autumn that changes the way I feel about home.

Maybe it's the cooler temperatures, the earlier sunsets, or simply knowing that the busy pace of summer has finally begun to slow down. Whatever it is, fall has a way of inviting us back home—not just physically, but emotionally.

As much as I love decorating for the season, my favorite part of autumn has never been the pumpkins or the blankets.

It's coming home.

After spending the day teaching kindergarten, there is no better feeling than pulling into the driveway, opening the front door, and stepping into a space that instantly makes me exhale. It's the place where I can leave the busyness of the day behind and simply enjoy the people, pets, and little moments that matter most.

Home becomes my favorite destination.

The First Thing I Do When I Walk Through the Door

The first few minutes after arriving home set the tone for the entire evening.

I almost always light a cozy candle before doing anything else. Instantly, the scent begins filling the house and everything feels a little calmer.

Next, I switch on the table lamps instead of the bright overhead lights. There's something about soft lighting that immediately makes a room feel welcoming.

I'll usually change into my favorite cozy sweatshirt.

It's amazing how a few simple rituals can transform an ordinary evening into something that feels intentional.

The Sounds That Make Autumn Feel Like Home

One of the reasons I love this season so much is because of the sounds that come with it.

The gentle crackle of a candle burning on the coffee table.

Rain tapping softly against the windows.

The bubbling of soup on the stove or the timer going off as something delicious finishes baking in the oven.

These aren't loud moments.

They're quiet reminders that home is exactly where I want to be.

The Scents That Welcome You Home

I've always believed that scent has the incredible ability to create memories.

Every autumn, I find myself reaching for fragrances that instantly make our house feel warm and inviting.

Cinnamon.

Fresh apples.

Creamy vanilla.

Warm cedar.

Pumpkin spice.

Fresh baked bread.

The moment one of those scents fills the air, it feels like fall has officially arrived.

Even years later, one familiar fragrance can transport you back to a favorite memory around the kitchen table or a cozy evening spent with family.

Why Home Matters Most During the Fall

People often ask how I create a cozy home.

The truth is, coziness isn't something you buy.

It isn't about having the newest decorations or perfectly styled shelves.

It's about creating a place where people instantly feel welcomed the moment they walk through the door.

Our home certainly isn't perfect, and I don't think it has to be.

It's a place where blankets are left on the couch because someone actually uses them.

Where candles burn almost every evening.

Where the dogs are always nearby.

Where friends and family are encouraged to stay a little longer, have another cup of coffee, and make themselves comfortable.

To me, that's what makes a house feel like home.

As I decorate each fall, I'm reminded that the most meaningful details aren't always the ones sitting on a shelf.

They're the memories made around the dining table.

The laughter shared in the kitchen.

The quiet evenings spent together after a long day.

Those are the things that truly make a home beautiful.

As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, I hope your home becomes your favorite place to be. Not because it's perfectly decorated, but because it's filled with warmth, laughter, good food, and the people you love.

That's what cozy has always meant to me.

Thank you for welcoming me into your homes and allowing me to share a little piece of ours. I hope this season brings you countless cozy evenings and reminds you that the greatest comfort isn't found in the decorations, it's found in the life you build within your walls.

With love,

Why I'll Always Love Fall at Home the Most

There is something about autumn that speaks to my heart in a way no other season can.

As much as I enjoy the sunshine of summer and the fresh blooms of spring, it's fall that truly makes our house feel like home. The moment the temperatures begin to dip and the evenings grow shorter, I find myself looking forward to one simple thing: coming home.

After a busy day of teaching kindergarten, there is nothing better than walking through the front door, greeted by the soft glow of lamps, the flicker of candlelight, and the comforting scent of pumpkin spice, warm apples, or cedar filling the air. It's an instant reminder to slow down.

Home feels different in the fall.

The windows are open just enough to let in the crisp breeze, a cozy throw blanket is waiting on the sofa, and there's almost always a mug of hot cider, coffee, or cocoa nearby. It's the season that invites us to pause, breathe deeply, and appreciate the little moments that often get lost in the busyness of everyday life.

One of my favorite parts of decorating for autumn is creating layers of warmth throughout our home. Rich brown tones replace the lighter colors of summer, chunky knit blankets are draped over chairs, and soft pillows invite everyone to sit down and stay awhile. I love bringing nature indoors with dried leaves, feathers, heirloom pumpkins, gourds, and branches gathered from outside. These simple touches remind me just how beautiful God's creation is during this season.

You'll also find plenty of woodland charm throughout our home. Vintage artwork featuring owls and pheasants has become one of my favorite ways to celebrate the season. Those timeless pieces add warmth, character, and a little bit of countryside charm that never seems to go out of style.

And of course... there are the candles.

Nothing says autumn quite like lighting one of my favorite cozy scents and watching the soft glow fill the room as the sun begins to set a little earlier each evening. Those quiet moments have become some of my favorite parts of the day.

Fall also reminds me that home isn't about perfection.

It's about creating a place where family, friends, and even unexpected guests feel instantly welcomed. A place where conversations linger around the dining table, where laughter fills the kitchen, and where everyone feels comfortable enough to kick off their shoes and stay awhile.

People often ask how I create a cozy home, but the truth is, coziness isn't found in the decorations alone.

It's found in the memories being made.

It's in sharing a homemade meal, curling up under a blanket with a good book, baking something delicious on a Saturday afternoon, or simply enjoying a quiet evening with the people you love most.

That's what I cherish most about this season.

Fall gives us permission to slow down.

To gather.

To appreciate the beauty around us.

And to remember that sometimes the greatest luxury isn't found in what we buy but in the feeling of coming home after a long day to a place filled with warmth, comfort, and love.

Thank you for allowing me to share our little corner of the world with you. I hope that as you begin decorating your own home this season, you'll focus less on creating a picture-perfect space and more on creating a home that tells your story and welcomes everyone who walks through your door.

Wishing you the coziest autumn,

How to Start Decorating for Fall: Creating a Cozy Home One Layer at a Time

There is something magical about the first hints of autumn. The mornings feel a little crisper, the evenings arrive a little earlier, and before long you'll find yourself reaching for a cozy blanket and your favorite pumpkin-spiced drink. While it may be tempting to pull out every pumpkin you own at once, I've found that the best fall homes are created slowly, layering pieces over time rather than decorating everything in a single afternoon.

If you're wondering where to begin, here are a few of my favorite ways to welcome the season into your home.

Start with Cozy Textures

The easiest way to transition your home from summer to autumn is by swapping lightweight fabrics for warm, inviting textures. Fold a chunky knit blanket over your favorite chair, add velvet or wool throw pillows, and bring out woven baskets for extra warmth and character.

These simple changes instantly make your home feel comfortable without screaming "fall."

Build Your Color Palette

Instead of bright summer colors, begin introducing richer earth tones throughout your home. Warm browns, caramel, olive greens, rust, mustard, and creamy neutrals create a timeless autumn palette that feels elegant and welcoming.

Even changing a few pillow covers, table linens, or artwork can completely change the mood of a room.

Bring Nature Indoors

One of my favorite ways to decorate for the season is by using natural elements. Gather dried leaves, feathers, acorns, pinecones, branches, dried gourds, wheat stems, and pumpkins to create simple displays throughout your home.

These organic touches add texture and beauty while celebrating everything we love about autumn.

Create Cozy Moments

Fall isn't just about decorating, it's about creating spaces you'll actually enjoy.

Set a cozy breakfast table with warm mugs and linen napkins. Style your coffee station with seasonal syrups and a favorite candle. Add a stack of books beside your favorite chair with a soft blanket nearby.

These little moments are what make a house feel like home.

Remember...Decorating Takes Time

One of the questions I'm asked most often is how our home came together.

The answer is simple: it didn't happen overnight.

Creating a home you truly love is a journey. It takes years of collecting meaningful pieces, finding vintage treasures, saving for special furniture, and slowly discovering your own style.

Don't feel like you have to recreate someone else's home in a weekend. Enjoy the process. Add pieces that make you smile, tell your story, and create a space where family and friends always feel welcome.

Because at the end of the day, that's what a cozy home is really about.

Happy decorating, friends!

How to Add Cozy Falloween Touches to Your Home

Ways to Add Cozy Falloween Charm to Your Home

There’s something special about that sweet spot between fall and Halloween: what I like to call Falloween. It’s when pumpkins and mums mingle with a few playful ghosts, when cozy harvest colors start mixing with a little spooky charm. If you’re like me, you don’t want your home to turn into a haunted house, but you do want to sprinkle in just enough magic to make things festive. Here are a few easy ways to bring Falloween decor into your home.

Playful Ghosts
Ghosts don’t have to be scary. Think whimsical instead of frightening. A set of white ceramic ghosts on a shelf or some felt ghost garlands across a mantle give that Halloween touch without overwhelming your space. You can even drape a few gauzy fabrics over lamp shades or mirrors to create that “boo” effect in a soft, cozy way.

Witch Hats with Charm
Witch hats are such a simple way to nod to Halloween fun. Try hanging miniature black felt hats from your dining room chandelier with fishing line so they appear to be floating in the air. You could also tuck a single witch hat on a coat hook by the entryway or use them as table accents for a seasonal dinner. They make a space instantly playful.

Glowing Jack O’Lanterns
Pumpkins are the heart of fall, but carved jack o’ lanterns add that little Halloween wink. Instead of carving every pumpkin, mix in a few pre-lit jack o’ lanterns (battery candles make them safe indoors) along with your stack of gourds and real pumpkins. Place one on your front porch to welcome trick-or-treaters or keep one glowing on your kitchen counter for a nightly dose of cozy-spooky.

Balance Cozy with Spooky
The trick to Falloween is balance. Blend your classic fall pieces: wheat bundles, plaid throws, amber bottles, with just a few whimsical Halloween touches. A cozy corner with candles and pumpkins can feel instantly festive when you add a cheeky ghost pillow or a little ghost figurine. Adding in cozy Halloween touches like witch hats on top of vintage creamers is a great way to add some cozy with a touch of spooky.

Falloween is about enjoying the harvest season while letting a bit of Halloween magic sneak in. It’s festive, it’s cozy, and it’s just plain fun. Whether it’s a glowing jack o’ lantern on the porch or a line of floating witch hats in the dining room, these small touches invite everyone to smile and settle into the season.

Let’s Plan a Cozy Fall Apple Cider Bar

Ways to Add Cozy Falloween Charm to Your Home

There’s nothing that says fall quite like apple cider shared with friends. Setting up a cider bar is such a fun way to bring warmth and charm to your party, and it’s easier than you might think. With a few seasonal touches in greens, browns, and whites, you can create a cozy setup that feels both welcoming and festive.

Start by choosing your table. Instead of a standard tablecloth, layer it with a soft blanket in warm tones. Think plaid, browns, or deep greens. This instantly adds texture and gives your cider bar that homey fall feel.

Now for the decor. Scatter white pumpkins and green heirloom pumpkins around the table for a natural autumn touch. Nestle in a few vintage crocks or baskets of white mums to brighten up the setup and balance the earthy colors. These little details make the bar feel abundant and seasonal without being overdone.

For the treats, keep it classic. A stack of apple cider donuts dusted in sugar, caramel apples with sticks for easy grabbing, and of course, a jug of apple cider. Set out mugs or mason jars, maybe even a dish of cinnamon sticks for stirring. Guests can help themselves, and it feels like a cozy ritual.

The mix of rustic browns from the blanket, fresh greens from the pumpkins, and soft whites from the mums and pumpkins gives the whole display a timeless autumn palette. It’s casual, cozy, and perfect for gathering.

So whether it’s a small get-together with family or a larger fall party, a cider bar sets the stage for connection, comfort, and just a little sweetness.

Wishing you cozy gatherings and mugs filled with warmth this season. Until next time, friends. Happy Fall!

Adding Vintage Charm to Your Home: Thrifted Finds That Make a Statement

Cozy Styling Tips for Fall

There’s something undeniably magical about bringing vintage treasures into your home. Each piece carries a story, a hint of nostalgia, and a timeless charm.. At Our Cozy Little Home, we love the warmth and personality that comes from mixing thrifted vintage pieces with new decor pieces. Here are a few of our favorite ways to incorporate vintage touches using simple, accessible finds.

Thrifted Pheasant Statues: A Quirky Nod to Nature Pheasant statues are the perfect mix of whimsy and elegance. Whether perched on a bookshelf, tucked onto a sideboard, or clustered with other natural elements like pinecones or dried hydrangeas, these little treasures bring an instant conversation starter to any room. Bonus: they pair beautifully with other rustic accents for a cozy, collected look.

Amber Bottles: Vintage Glass with a Glow
Amber bottles are deceptively versatile. Grouped together on a windowsill, mantel, or kitchen shelf, they add warmth with their rich, honeyed tones. Fill them with dried flowers, sprigs of greenery, or even fairy lights for a soft, inviting glow. These bottles also make lovely stand alone pieces, their vintage charm making every space feel a little more curated.

Vintage Jugs: Rustic Charm with Character
Vintage jugs are charming, versatile pieces that add a touch of history to your home. They work beautifully as stand alone accents on shelves or mantels, or as functional vessels for flowers, branches, or kitchen utensils. Their unique shapes, earthy tones, and sometimes weathered markings give a homey, collected feel that complements both rustic and eclectic styles. Mixing a few jugs of different sizes together can create a visually interesting and cozy vignette anywhere in your home.

Brown Stoneware Pieces: Earthy and Timeless
There’s something grounding about brown stoneware. From bowls to pitchers, these pieces bring warmth and subtle texture to any display. Pair them with lighter elements like linen napkins or soft candlelight to balance the earthy tones, or create a layered vignette with crocks, amber bottles, and a few pheasant feathers for an intentionally collected look.

Vintage Picnic Baskets: Functional and Decorative
Vintage picnic baskets are not just for the outdoors—they make a delightful addition to indoor decor. Use them for storing cozy blankets, magazines, or seasonal decorations while adding texture and warmth to a room. Placed on shelves, tucked under tables, or even stacked as a playful accent, these baskets bring a nostalgic charm and practical storage solution to your home.

Antique Brass Candle Holders: Warmth and Elegance
Antique brass candle holders add a touch of timeless elegance and soft, inviting light to any space. Their warm metallic tones complement earthy décor like stoneware, crocks, and amber bottles, while their classic design brings sophistication without feeling fussy. Arrange a few on a mantel, dining table, or sideboard, either with taper candles or small pillar candles, to instantly create a cozy, glowing atmosphere.

The key to vintage decor is thoughtful placement. Rather than filling every surface, focus on creating small vignettes that tell a story. Mix textures, heights, and colors to keep the eye engaged, and allow each vintage piece to shine. Even a single pheasant statue, a cluster of amber bottles, or a weathered jug can elevate a space when paired with the right surroundings.

Bringing vintage elements into your home isn’t just about decorating, it’s about creating a space with personality, history, and a touch of nostalgia. Whether you’re strolling through thrift stores, antique shops, or estate sales, keep an eye out for pieces that speak to you, because the true charm of vintage decor lies in the story behind every find.

At Our Cozy Little Home, we love combining these vintage treasures with cozy textures and seasonal touches to make a home that feels warm, personal, and timeless. Happy hunting, and happy decorating!

XOXO

The Cozy Magic of the “Ber” Months

Cozy Styling Tips for Fall

The second the calendar flips to September, something shifts in our house. Maybe it’s the cooler nights that call for an extra blanket, or the way the light slants just right in the evenings, but there’s no denying it: the Ber Months (September, October, November, and December) are the coziest stretch of the year. Around here, we lean into them fully, every month with its own little rituals and ways of making our home feel warm, inviting, and ready for the season ahead.

Making Home Cozy During the Ber Months

For us, cozy isn’t about perfection. It’s about small changes that make the house feel like it’s giving you a hug when you walk through the door. A few things we always do once September hits:

Add layers of texture: soft throws on the couch, baskets of blankets in the living room, and maybe a few flannel pillow covers.

Keep natural touches in every corner: a crock of dried hydrangeas on the table, a vase of branches from the yard, pinecones collected on a walk.

Switch out lighting to something softer: candles (real or battery), little lamps, and twinkle lights that we sometimes forget to take down because they make the evenings so peaceful.

Fill the kitchen with seasonal scents: a simmer pot of apple peels and cinnamon sticks on the stove makes the whole house feel like a bakery. Or grab yourself a cozy PUMPKIN BREAD candle from ANTIQUE CANDLE CO. (Use my link and code BRYAN20 to save 20% off) Antique Candle Co

A Cozy Little List for Each Month:

September
The start of it all. Pumpkins begin sneaking into the decor.

Go apple picking and turn the extras into cider applesauce or pie.

Create a cozy apple cider bar outside with blankets and candlelight. Invite friends over for a backyard bonfire.

Make the first soup of the season. (That is definitely a Jameson job…he’s the cook!)

Take evening walks when the air is just starting to crisp.

October
By now, we’re fully in autumn mode. The porch gets lined with pumpkins and mums, and inside the house, I bring out all the cozy plaids.

Visit a pumpkin patch and carve jack-o’-lanterns.

Have a family movie night with all the classic fall favorites. Our favorite is Hocus Pocus for sure!

Decorate the entryway with cornstalks and a big fall wreath. Add some orange lights for a cozy glow!

November
This month feels like the heart of cozy. Warm colors, candlelight at dinner, and gathering with family.

Set the table with vintage stoneware, a basket of gourds, and brass candlesticks.

Bake pies (even if it’s just one, the smell alone is worth it). Apple is for sure my favorite but I love the smell of pumpkin pie fresh out of the oven.

Make a “thankful tree.” Gather some branches from your yard. Place them in a vintage crock. Precut leaves for your family to write one thing you are thankful for each evening. Add the leaves to the branches and by Thanksgiving you will have a beautiful centerpiece!

December
The grand finale of the Ber Months. The show. This is the moment to shine. The house feels alive with evergreen garlands, twinkling lights, and little traditions we look forward to all year.

Make homemade ornaments for the tree.

Take a drive to see holiday lights around town.

Bake Christmas cookies. This is a huge tradition for me. I took on the baking when my grandmother passed and now I bake many different varieties for our family and friends.

Sip hot cocoa under a pile of blankets while reading or watching a Christmas movie or two. Our list always includes: Home Alone, Elf, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and The Santa Clause.

The Ber Months remind us to slow down, gather together, and enjoy the comfort of home. Every season has its beauty, but these four months feel like pure magic. They’re the ones that fill our home with traditions, warmth, and plenty of cozy evenings by the fire, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Jameson and I always say the Ber Months are our favorite stretch of the year, and December is the one that steals our hearts every time. There is something about the month of December that slows everything down and makes us so grateful for this season.

We love the way December holds both the bustle of the holidays and the calm of cozy nights at home. It’s the month where home feels the most magical, where every room glows a little warmer, and where we’re reminded of just how much joy these four little Ber Months bring to our family.

XOXO

Bringing Nature Home: Cozy Fall Decorating with Natural Touches

Cozy Styling Tips for Fall

At Our Cozy Little Home, autumn is our favorite season to slow down, savor the crisp air, and let nature spill right into our rooms. There’s something about the earthy textures and warm colors outside our door that makes the inside feel even more comforting. Every branch, wreath, and dried gourd tells its own little story of the season.

A cornstalk wreath feels like a hug from the harvest season. Its golden tones and rustling texture greet you before you even step inside. We love hanging one on the front door or above the mantel, where it sets the tone for everything else.

Dried gourds are like nature’s little sculptures. Their soft, muted colors and knobbly shapes bring quiet warmth to tabletops and shelves. Paired with a candle, they instantly make a corner feel more inviting.

Nothing says harvest quite like golden wheat. We gather it in simple bundles tied with twine, or arrange it loosely in a crock. It’s a reminder of abundance, and its sunny hue pairs beautifully with the deep, rich colors of autumn leaves and natural woods.

Limelight hydrangeas, once fresh and full of summer life, dry into the most delicate shades of pale green and ivory. We tuck them into baskets, vases, or wreaths for a soft, romantic touch that bridges the seasons perfectly. Their faded beauty whispers of summer past while blending seamlessly into fall’s palette.

Pinecones are a beautiful natural touch to your fall decor. We scatter them across mantels, tuck them into baskets of gourds, or use them to fill bowls on coffee tables. Their warm brown tones and intricate patterns bring a natural, woodsy charm that works all season long—and well into winter.

Long, patterned pheasant feathers bring a subtle elegance to fall arrangements. We love tucking them into baskets, floral centerpieces, or even a pitcher with branches. Their warm browns and rich stripes echo the season’s palette and add beautiful texture.

By layering these natural elements, our home feels connected to the season in a way that’s both timeless and personal. It’s the kind of coziness you can see, smell, and feel—the kind that makes you want to linger just a little longer.

5 Simple Ways to Add Cozy Textures and Decor to Your Home This Autumn

Cozy Styling Tips for Fall

There’s just something magical about autumn—the crisp air, golden leaves, and the way your home starts calling out for warm blankets, flickering candles, and all things cozy. At Our Cozy Little Home, fall is one of our favorite seasons to decorate for because it's all about creating comfort and embracing slower moments.

If you're ready to bring that snuggly, layered feeling into your home this season, here are 5 easy and thoughtful ways to add cozy textures and decor for autumn.

1. Layer Throw Blankets and Pillows

Swap out your lightweight summer textiles for soft, chunky throws and plush pillows in rich, fall-inspired tones like burnt orange, mustard, cranberry, and deep forest green. Look for knit, boucle, or faux fur textures—these add warmth both visually and physically. Try draping a blanket over the arm of your couch or layering pillows in varied sizes and materials for a lived-in, inviting look.

2. Add Warm Wood and Natural Elements

Autumn is all about connecting to nature, so bring in elements like wood, rattan, dried wheat, or acorns. Wooden bowls, vintage cutting boards, or a bundle of dried florals in a ceramic vase can instantly add texture and seasonal warmth. We love scattering small touches like pinecones or mini gourds around the house for subtle nods to the season.

3. Incorporate Soft Lighting

The right lighting can completely transform a space. As the days get shorter, we love to lean into soft, ambient light. Think flickering candles (real or flameless), warm-toned string lights, and cozy table lamps with warm bulbs. Bonus points if you place your lighting near a textured piece—like a knit pouf or wood side table—to cast pretty shadows and make the room feel even more inviting.

4. Swap Out Rugs and Curtains

Textiles don't stop at blankets! Swapping a lightweight rug for a plush or woven one adds instant coziness underfoot. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, switching your curtains to something with a heavier weave or a deeper tone can make your space feel snug and seasonally styled.

5. Create a Cozy Autumn Scent Story

Cozy isn’t just visual—it’s also about how your home feels and smells. A signature autumn scent like cinnamon, clove, vanilla, or smoked cedar can create an immediate sense of warmth. We use candles, essential oils, and simmer pots on the stove with apple slices, cinnamon sticks, and orange peels. It’s such a simple way to make your home feel like fall.

However you decorate, the key is to create a space that makes you want to curl up, stay in, and enjoy the slower pace of the season. Cozy doesn’t have to be complicated—it just has to feel like you.

Happy fall from Our Cozy Little Home!

— Bryan & Jameson
